GERALD ROGAN, MD JOINS REIMBURSEMENT TEAM OF MUSCULOSKELETAL CLINICAL REGULATORY ADVISERS

Washington, DC - February 11, 2008: Musculoskeletal Clinical Regulatory Advisers, LLC (MCRA), an independent consulting firm assisting medical device and biologic orthopedic clients, announced that Gerald Rogan, MD has joined the Reimbursement team.

Dr. Rogan served for over six years as a Part B Medicare Carrier medical director for National Heritage Insurance Company (NHIC) in California. NHIC is the largest fee-for-service jurisdiction in the Medicare program, serving approximately 2.5 million beneficiaries each year. During his tenure, NHIC added two additional carrier jurisdictions, growing from 23 million claims to 75 million claims processed annually, representing $3.5 billion federal dollars paid annually. Under his leadership, the Medicare Carrier Advisory Committee evolved into a highly functional and integral part of local Medicare policy development.

As the carrier medical director at NHIC, Dr. Rogan led an intensive effort with the California Medical Association and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to improve the method that Medicare contractors use to conduct post-payment review of Medicare claims. This effort resulted in the current Medicare contractor medical review process which CMS has named Progressive Corrective Action.

Charles Schneider, Vice President, Reimbursement said, “MCRA is pleased Dr. Rogan has decided to become an integral part of the Reimbursement team. Gerry’s leadership within the CMS organization, coupled with his experience assisting technology companies with their reimbursement needs, is unparalleled within our industry. His experience as a practicing physician, work with the American Medical Association and CMS on developing coding solutions for emerging technologies will further assist companies who seek market access for their medical device, biologic or pharmaceutical products.”

David Lown, MCRA’s General Manager further noted “Dr. Rogan’s track record has proven him to be an initiative-based individual. For the past 25 years he has served as a medical expert for various parties within the healthcare system – for government agencies, physicians and the medical device industry as a whole. His contributions to the orthopedic industry will be invaluable.”
