Hal Mathews, MD, MBA President, MCRA, LLC

Dr. Mathews is an established board-certified orthopedic spinal surgeon and an accomplished leader in the medical technology field. He has extensive knowledge and experience in the spinal surgery field with 30 years of experience in both academic and private practice spinal surgery managing many FDA PMA IDE studies.

Dr. Mathews earned his Medical Degree at Virginia Commonwealth University. Following his general surgery internship, Dr. Mathews completed an Orthopeadic residency program with emphasis in spine. He was instrumental in resident and fellowship education at Virginia Commonwealth University in the 1990's where he helped develop a center of excellence at the institution. He received his MBA degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN.

Dr. Mathews specialized in spine and trauma surgery early in his career while developing many minimally invasive spine techniques that have had a tremendous impact on today's surgical procedures. He has been awarded dozens of US and worldwide patents on medical devices used in today's surgical procedures.

Dr. Mathews was an active member holding several leadership positions in these the world top medical societies. Dr. Mathews is a society fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the North American Spine Society (NASS). He served on the NASS Board of Directors and Executive Committee for 6 years prior to his retirement from medical practice. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Spine Arthroplasty Society and was President of The International Society of Minimally Invasive Surgery when he joined Medtronic in January 2007.

Dr. Mathews held positions of Vice President of Clinical and Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer during his tenure at Medtronic's Spine and Biologics division in Memphis, TN. Dr. Mathews joined VB Professional Services in Jan 2011 and became President of MCRA, LLC leading the efforts in Washington, DC, New York, and Manchester, CT
